The logo on the inside. The subtractive beauty of "silent luxury" that puts the wearer first

HIRAOKATOMOKO

Hello, this is Tomoko from tousket

The other day, I received a wonderful message from a customer in the United States that truly touched my heart.

"I admire Japanese culture. Beyond the perfect size of the bag, the discreet placement of the logo on the inside gives me a sense of 'silent luxury.' Carrying this bag makes me feel like I'm wearing a piece of your culture."

The phrase "silent luxury" – I read it over and over again, feeling as if it beautifully articulated the very essence of what I value most in my creations.

In fact, the tousket bag logo is intentionally placed where it's not visible from the outside. Rather than the brand name taking center stage, I want people to first and foremost appreciate the beauty of the basket's weave and the warmth of the craftsmanship. And I want the bag to be a quiet yet steady companion in the daily lives and styles of those who carry it. This is the "subtractive" philosophy I infuse into my work.

It's a subtle yet undeniable quality. Perhaps it resonates with the atmosphere of Nara, the ancient capital where I weave baskets every day.

Nara, next to Kyoto, where history quietly breathes. To know that a bag born in this place is cherished as "a piece of Japanese culture" in a distant country, and that my deliberate "unobtrusive logo" is perceived as "luxury," fills me with a profound happiness as an artisan.

I will continue to create pieces where the work itself speaks, rather than the logo.

I look forward to the day when you might visit Nara with this bag.
